  1. Basic Furniture
  2. Favorite Decor
  3. Clothing
  4. Toiletries
  5. Housewares
  6. Cleaning Supplies
  7. Entertainment

1) Some Basic Furniture to Make a Home

Although your assisted living facility will most likely be furnished already, you might want to bring a couple of furniture items from your loved one’s previous home to help them adjust to the new environment. A favorite rocking chair, for example, is something you’d want to include in their new home.

Pro Tip: Look over the floor plan that your loved one is moving into beforehand to make sure there will be room for any furniture you plan on bringing.

2) Liven Up the Place With Favorite Decor

Sometimes it’s the little things in life that make us happy. Make sure to include any of your loved one’s cherished decorative items such as family photos or artwork.

3) Essential Clothing, Shoes, and Accessories

Be sure to bring comfortable shoes and clothing along with lots of undergarments. This will ensure that when one week’s socks are in the wash, there’s another week of clean socks available. Pack any treasured accessories and/or shoes as well.

4) Don’t Forget the Simple Toiletries

You don’t want to forget important prescription medications, must-have makeup, and shower supplies. Any personal items that are used on a daily basis should be packed for move-in day.

5) Housewares to Fill in the Kitchen Space

While meals will be planned and prepared in the assisted living community, there are housewares such as tea sets and small utensils that your loved one may want to use on their own time.

6) Cleaning Supplies Are a Must-Have

Cleaning services will be provided in assisted living to keep your elder’s living quarters sanitary. Although it will be useful to have cleaning supplies on demand for any little messes that may happen during visits.

7) Favorite Source of Entertainment

Older adults love their entertainment. If they like doing crossword puzzles or reading, pack those with them when they leave. Be sure to bring a TV so they can watch their favorite shows and movies.

Senior Living Made Easy

Moving your parents into assisted living can be tough, but with the right amount of planning, getting their favorite items all set in their new living space will lift a big weight off of everyone’s shoulders.
