Assisted Living: Bridging the Gap Between GenerationsCommunicating with Your Loved Ones at Unlimited Care Cottages

Staying in touch with your loved ones can seem difficult, especially when they’re in an assisted living home, and perhaps not close to where you are. Fortunately, we live in a day where technological advancements can help to bridge the gap between generations when in-person visits may not be possible.

The Importance of Connectedness for Those in Assisted Living

While our assisted living staff considers each resident a part of our extended family – seniors in assisted living need to feel connected with the world outside their home, much like any other person. Without this connection, residents may feel isolated and alone, which often can lead to depression. When the depression sets in, it can further complicate existing medical conditions such as arthritis, heart disease and diabetes. Visiting with loved ones, whether in person or via technology such as cellphones and video chats can help them stay connected with their loved ones and reduce the risk of becoming depressed.

Facetime Helps Bridge the Gap

At Unlimited Care Cottages, we love watching our residents connect with their family and friends outside of our homes. We provide access to Facetime for video messaging, adding a personal touch where our residents can see their loved ones faces and really interact as if they are there.

Connecting through Photos

In between Facetiming with their loved ones, residents also enjoy receiving photos of family and friends via their mobile devices. You should see their smiles and their eyes light up when they recognize their grandchildren in a photo!

Phone Calls

Many residents already have a phone and know how to use it. Hearing their loved ones on the other end always brightens their day and gives them a sense of connectedness.

At Unlimited Care Cottages we have trained caregivers who work hard to create an environment where our residents can feel like they are at home. We value your time with your loved one and will work with you to use technology to connect often!
